Oakley Street II
Services Provided
Listed Building Consent, Refurbishment
Location
Chelsea, London
Project type
Architecture
A refurbishment of a two-bedroom, two-bathroom flat within a listed building in Chelsea, focused on creating a lighter, calmer interior while making careful use of the existing architectural features.
Unlike Oakley Street I, the approach here was deliberately restrained. Existing bespoke joinery was retained and integrated into the refurbishment, while a predominantly white palette was used to maximise natural light and give the rooms a brighter, more spacious feel.
The kitchen was completely replaced with a new contemporary design, introducing a cleaner and more functional layout. The wider refurbishment focused on improving the relationship between the existing elements and new interventions, allowing the original features to remain legible rather than being overshadowed.
The result is a more understated interior, where proportion, light, material consistency and careful editing do most of the work on a small budget.
