Role
Lead Designer, Project Manager
A full refurbishment of a Victorian terraced house in East London, involving basement excavation, a new rear extension and internal reconfiguration.
One of the key interventions was the transformation of an uninhabitable cellar with no natural light into a self-contained lower-ground space with private access and a generous ceiling height. This required close coordination of excavation, structure, party wall matters and Building Control.
At ground-floor level, the kitchen was relocated from the first floor into a new rear extension. Full-width sliding doors open directly onto a paved garden, while a large roof light brings natural light deep into the space. The kitchen was designed with integrated appliances and oak-fronted cabinetry to create a clean, continuous finish.
A curved concealed door within the kitchen forms the entrance to the basement, allowing the stair access to disappear into the joinery and keeping the main space visually uninterrupted.
The project also included direct client appointments for specialist kitchen and joinery packages, alongside detailed coordination of structural integration, statutory approvals and construction.
